Happy Tuesday, everyone!
I love this time of year. Christmas has passed, leaving only discarded trees on street corners as gentle reminders. The days are quietly lengthening—slowly, steadily—bringing welcome light back into our mornings and evenings. But there's something special about this particular moment: a stoic calm settles over winter, giving us space to process, to regenerate, to prepare ourselves for spring's eventual arrival.
Now is the time to take stock. To think deeply. To enjoy unhurried time with family and friends, and to count our blessings. Yes, there are challenges on the horizon—there always are—but we have each other. We live in a beautiful part of the world, rich with excitement and opportunity. And together, we'll move forward.
Speaking of opportunities—last night I caught John R Miller at The Lexington, and what an experience. Critics have praised his "startlingly original" songwriting and described him as a master of vivid, working-class storytelling with a voice that carries the weight of Appalachian tradition. Start with "Borrowed Time" if you're new to his work—it's a perfect introduction.
Equally thrilling was discovering the support act: Susannah Clegg, a singer-songwriter from North West England who absolutely knocked me sideways. Her stunning cover of Sierra Ferrell's "At the End of the Rainbow" alone is worth the price of admission. Her talent deserves a far wider audience.
Find them both on Apple Music and Spotify—perfect companions for these quiet winter evenings.
