SOFT SERVE IS BACK!

come grab your favourite swirl today!

Soft serve is more than just a delicious treat - it’s a creamy, smooth symbol of springtime joy. Unlike regular ice cream, soft serve has a lighter texture and is served at a slightly warmer temperature, allowing it to melt gently in your mouth. But this delightfully airy dessert didn’t just appear out of nowhere; it has a history as unique as its taste.

The invention of soft serve ice cream is a subject of debate, with a few key players claiming to be its original creator. One popular version credits Tom Carvel, the founder of the Carvel ice cream brand in the USA, with the accidental discovery of soft serve in the 1930s. The story goes that Carvel's ice cream truck had a flat tire, and as his product began to melt, he decided to sell it anyway. To his surprise, customers loved the softer texture. Inspired by the success of this unintentional experiment, he later opened a roadside stand and began perfecting a machine that could replicate the consistency.

Meanwhile, across the country, Dairy Queen founders John Fremont McCullough and his son Alex were also experimenting with a softer version of ice cream around the same time. They debuted their product in 1938 in Illinois, where it was an instant hit. Their success helped to commercialize soft serve and make it a staple in dessert shops across America.

Soft serve is made with a similar base to traditional ice cream but with less milk fat and more air whipped into the mix - a process known as overrun. This results in its signature smooth, light texture. Modern machines allow for precise temperature control and mixing, ensuring each cone has the perfect balance of flavour and fluff.

Today, soft serve is a nostalgic favorite, enjoyed in cones, cups, and swirled with toppings from sprinkles to chocolate dips. It’s available in countless flavours, though the classics - vanilla, chocolate, and twist - still reign supreme.

Whether you're reliving childhood memories or just cooling off on a sunny day, soft serve remains a beloved treat for all ages.

And yes - our soft serve machine is officially back! Come indulge in that perfect swirl you’ve been waiting for.
